TANAPA KUPANDISHA TOZO ZA HIFADHI KUANZIA JULY 2013, BEI MPYA HIZI HAPA

PARK FEE CHANGES FROM 1ST JULY 2013 TO 30TH JUNE 2015

1.0 BACKGROUND
The Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) Tariffs were previously revised for three times; in  Januar 2000,   July  2004  and  July  2006.  The  current  revisions  are  done  to accommodate new tourism products and operational costs.

The new tariffs will be effective from 1st  July 2013 as tour operators need a prior notice of at least one  year before enforcement. Tariffs would be revised every two years. The park entry fee has been renamed as ‘conservation fee’.

2.0 MAJOR REASONS FOR PARK FEE CHANGES
1) To cater for the general increase in price levels of most commodities and services that has continued
escalate hence increasing operational costs for the organization.
2) Improve tourism facilities and infrastructure such as roads, bridges and airstrips, to cater for increased
number of visitors and diversify tourism activities in order to provide outstanding visitor experience.
3) Improvement of staff incentives and packages to cope with increased cost of living.

3.0 APPROVED CHANGES
The approved fee changes are based on experience in carrying out the activities, willingness to participate in the activities, parks fee structure, parks attractiveness to visitors and feedback from tourists and tour operators.

Changes in fees are undertaken in the following activities
• Filming
• Walking safaris
• Sports fishing
• Boating
• Canoeing and kayaking
• Night game drives
• Guidin
• Vehicle
• Aircraft landing
• Entry fee
• Student
• Directors pass
• Bush lunch/dinner
• Snorkeling

3.1 FILMING FEES
Justification for changes
For a long time, filming fees were based on a flat rate that includes entry and camping
fees. This fee is very low and out of date. The new fees are as follows:

3.2 WALKING SAFARIS

3.3 SPORTS FISHING FEES
Justification for changes
Sport fishing as an activity does not contradict National Parks Policies; which emphasizes
the non consumptive use of resources. This is due to the fact that the catch and release method is the one that is being practiced. This method is internationally known to have insignificant adverse impacts to fish and the environment in general. In addition to that, TANAPA monitors and controls the type of  equipment used in the sport fishing and ensures that the caught fish is released back into water.
